Ingredients
  

  • For the Sausage Filling
  • 1 lb 450g ground sausage ( chicken, or beef)
  • 1 cup caramelized onions or sauté 1 large onion until golden
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 4 oz ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • For the Pastry
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Optional Garnish
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fresh thyme
  • Flaky sea salt

Method
 

  1. Prepare the Filling
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, caramelized onions, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, paprika, pepper, and salt.
  3. Add the cream cheese and shredded cheese; mix until fully combined and creamy.
  4. Prepare the Pastry
  5. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Cut the pastry into two long strips.
  7. Fill & Shape
  8. Divide the sausage mixture in half and shape each half into a long log.
  9. Place one sausage log on each pastry strip.
  10. Roll the pastry around the filling and seal the edges tightly.
  11. Slice each log into 6 equal pieces.
  12. Bake
  13. Place the sausage rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  14. Whisk the egg with water and brush lightly over each roll.
  15. Sprinkle sesame seeds or flaky salt on top (optional).
  16. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

  18. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
