Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread or rustic toast bread
  • ½ cup 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic minced (or roasted garlic for roasted garlic bread)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional, for garlic Parmesan bread
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella optional, for garlic bread with cheese

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the loaf in half lengthwise.
  3. In a bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, and salt until smooth.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both bread halves.
  5. Sprinkle Parmesan and mozzarella if making a cheesy version.
  6. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes, until golden and crisp.
  7. For extra crispiness, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  8. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a garlic bread loaf, wrap in foil before baking for a softer result.
  • To make pull apart garlic bread, cut slits in the loaf, stuff with garlic butter and cheese, and bake until gooey.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley for a vibrant garlic bread aesthetic.
  • Pairs beautifully with pasta dishes, soups, or as part of a savory bread appetizer spread.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days; reheat in the oven for best texture.
