Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips plus extra for topping

Method

  1. Preheat oven:
  2. Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  3. Mash bananas:
  4. In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth and creamy.
  5. Add wet ingredients:
  6. Mix in melted butter, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.
  7. Add dry ingredients:
  8. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir gently until just mixed.
  9. Add yogurt and chocolate chips:
  10. Fold in Greek yogurt and chocolate chips for a moist texture and chocolatey goodness.
  11. Bake:
  12. Pour batter into loaf pan, top with extra chocolate chips, and bake for 55–65 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean.
  13. Cool and serve:
  14. Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then move to a rack. Slice and enjoy once cooled.

Notes

  • Use overripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • Add nuts or white chocolate chips for variety.
  • Store covered at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • To reheat, microwave slices for 10–15 seconds for that fresh-from-the-oven taste.
