Ingredients

  • 1 cup 225 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips mix of milk + dark, if possible
  • Optional: extra chocolate chips for topping

Method

  1. In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each, then stir in vanilla.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix gently just until combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Cover the bowl and chill the dough at least 1 hour (up to 24 hours).
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F / 175°C. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop large dough balls (about 2–3 tbsp each) onto trays, spacing well.
  9. Bake 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers look slightly soft.
  10. Cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then move to a rack to finish cooling.

Notes

  • Chilling prevents spreading and boosts flavor.
  • Slight underbake keeps the centers soft.
  • Press a few chocolate chips on top before baking for a bakery look.
  • Add 1 tablespoon flour for slightly more cake-like cookies.
