Hot cross buns recipe

You’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of lukewarm milk
  • 1 cup of raisins
  • 1 cup of castor sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 100ml of melted butter
  • 10g of yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

For the cross, you’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup of self-raising flour
  • 125ml of milk

To start, preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius. In a bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and milk. Stir, cover, and set aside for 5-10 minutes. While you wait, sift the flour, salt, cinnamon, and raisins into a separate bowl. Pour in the melted butter and eggs, followed by the yeast mixture. Mix everything together until it forms a dough. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes or until it’s well mixed. Cover the bowl and place it in a warm spot for an hour or until the dough has doubled in size.

Once the dough has risen, press it flat and knead it again. Break the dough into tennis ball-sized portions and place them on a baking tray. In a separate bowl, mix the self-raising flour and milk to make a paste. Place the paste in a piping bag and pipe a cross onto each bun. Bake the buns in a preheated oven for 30-40 minutes or until they’re golden brown.
