Instructions:

Doughnuts:
  1. Activate Yeast:
    • In a large measuring jug, combine the milk and boiling water.
    • Add a teaspoon of the sugar and the yeast. Stir gently, then leave in a warm place for the yeast to foam.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, the rest of the sugar, and the salt.
    • Cut in the butter using your fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles crumbs.
  3. Combine and Knead:
    • Beat the egg lightly.
    • Add the egg and yeast mixture to the flour mix and mix into a smooth dough (about 5 minutes).
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly-floured counter and knead for about 5-10 minutes until it feels springy and little bubbles form under the surface.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a cloth or plastic wrap, and let rise for about an hour until double in size.
  5. Shape Doughnuts:
    • Once risen, place the dough onto the counter and cut it into 4 pieces.
    • Stretch each piece into a long rope about an inch to an inch and a half wide.
    • Cut strips about an inch long, roll them into balls, and place them on a baking tray or wire rack.
    • Cover with a cloth to rise while you heat the oil to 375°F.
  6. Fry Doughnuts:
    • Place the doughnut holes into the oil and fry until golden brown on each side, about 2 minutes.
    • Fry only a few at a time to avoid overcrowding and sticking.
    • Drain on a paper towel or wire rack over a cloth.
Glaze:
  1. Prepare Glaze:
    • Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
    • Remove from heat and stir in confectioners’ sugar and vanilla until smooth.
    • Add hot water, one tablespoon at a time, until the glaze is thin but not watery.
  2. Glaze Doughnuts:
    • Glaze the warm doughnut holes by dipping them in the glaze.
    • Allow them to set on a wire rack.

Conclusion

These homemade Krispy Kremes are a delightful treat that captures the essence of the original. The soft, fluffy dough paired with the sweet glaze makes them irresistible. Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, these doughnuts are sure to please any crowd. Enjoy them fresh and warm for the best experience!
